Preliminary Task

Plan of the page 

My basic outline of how my school magazine is going to look. I have drafted a front cover (with an idea of what colours I want to include). I also had to include a draft of a contents page (with basic ideas of headlines and colours i want to include. I had to put a medium close up of a student on the front cover.

Photos Used in Preliminary Task

These are the two pictures I choose to include as the main parts of my front cover and contents page. On the front cover, I had to include a medium close up of a student. I decided to pick this photo because, I need to change the background colour to go with the background colour. On my contents page, I wanted to include a simple picture, that would not take away from the text and other pictures. I think this picture fulfils this aim. 

These photos have helped me get to grips with photoshop. I will discover how to many different things. Theses new skills will end up helping me with the new music magazine. 

Changed Photos

These are the photo I used. In photoshop, I changed the first picture, to have no background and I have slightly changed to colour of the person hair. 

On picture two, I changed the background colour to a purple colour. I changed the colour to match my front cover background. 

Finished Product

This is my school magazine. I have created a front cover and content page. 

In the end, I have fulfilled the brief of the task by making a new school magazine with a medium close up of a student on the front cover.  I think I have included a majority of the codes and conventions of a real life magazine. I have shown the continuity of my magazine by using the same background and title colours (purple and yellow). These colours also link with the school, so anyone picking the magazine up would know that it relates to the school. I have used bubbles to make particular parts of the writing stand out more than others. I have also used white writing because it stands out on the purple background.

While making my school magazine I have had to use both QuarkXpress and Photoshop. 

In QuarkXpress, I had to create the layout of the front cover and content page. This is a program that I had never really  used in the past. I need to figure out how to do the simplest of task and build from there. I now think I have the knowledge to produce a music magazine that looks like ones we see on the shelves in stores.

In Photoshop, I manipulated the photos to how I wanted them to look. Until this task I had only used this program for the simplest of tasks, like colouring in the background. I have now build on these skills and learnt new skills also. 

I have learnt many new skills using these programs, that I will now be able to use to make my music magazine.
